History of our Center
The Lake Mills Community Preschool & Daycare originated as an employer-sponsored daycare named “Fleetguard Child Care Center”. Its original purpose was to serve the families who worked at Fleetguard, Inc. In 1989, FCCC opened its doors to the public due to the high demand for daycare in Lake Mills. In the fall of 2000, Fleetguard, Inc. turned the center over to the community and in January 2001, the center changed its name to reflect the new vision of being a community sponsored childcare center.
LMCPD is an independent childcare center serving the needs of families in north central Iowa and southern Minnesota. LMCPD strives to provide families with safe, affordable, and quality preschool and childcare services.
LMCPD accepts full-time, part-time, and drop-in children ages 6 weeks to 12 years. We do not discriminate against children or families joining our childcare facility due to race, creed, color, sex, age, or religion. LMCPD is licensed for 267 children.
A few of the programs we currently offer include: daycare services for children ages 0-12; pre-school classes for children ages three, four, and five taught by two licensed elementary teachers five days a week; before and after school care; and a special summer program for students in kindergarten through fifth grade. We are also licensed by the Department of Human Services and are active participants in the Department of Education’s Child and Adult Care Food Program. We are currently rated a 4 star by the Quality Rating Scale.
LMCPD is led by a board of directors. LMCPD employs between 25-30 full-time and part-time staff members. At various times throughout the year, there are also volunteers from the community.
